Trying to figure out which fence design is right for you? There are many ways to approach this process. You don’t have to have an architectural mind to know what you like. You just need to know where to get inspiration so you can decide what you like. Here are some tips to start your fencing design journey.
Upgrade What You Already Have
If you already have a fence on your property, you need to decide if you like the current design of it. Do you want to simply swap out the fence with new materials, or do you want an upgrade? For instance, if you have a wood fence that is grey and rotted, you could either get a new wood fence or upgrade to durable vinyl. The vinyl fencing will cost more upfront, but it will save you money in the long run because vinyl is highly durable. If you have a chain link fence, consider upgrading to a wood privacy fence. We can go over all these options with you so you get the best bang for your buck.
Drive around Your Neighborhood
Most of the homes in your neighborhood were probably built around the same era, so they will be a similar age and style. You can drive around the neighborhood to see what kinds of fences you like best. Focus on homes that look renovated so you can see how newer fencing materials will look with your style of home. If you see a fence that you like the look of, take photos of it to show your fencing company.
It’s important to know what you like, but it’s also important to know what you don’t like. If you see a fence in your neighborhood that you absolutely hate, write down which features you dislike about it. Do you like the fence design but not the color? Do you like the style but not the material? Communicate this information with your fencing company so they can suggest the best design for you.
Look at a Fence Gallery for Fence Design Ideas
One of the easiest ways to get inspiration for fence design is to look at an online gallery from a fence company. This lets you see new materials in a range of settings so you can get ideas for your property. You can check out our fence gallery to see examples of actual work from All Around Fence, LLC. We have done numerous projects that are not currently on our website, so feel free to call us to request more photos.
Search Online for Your Home’s Style
Whether you’re looking on Google Images, Pinterest, or your favorite design website, search for fence inspiration based on the type of home you have. There is no sense in falling in love with a fence design that simply does not go with the look of your home. If you have a traditional ranch style home, look up “traditional fence” or “ranch home fence.” If you have a midcentury modern home, look up “midcentury modern fencing.” This narrows your options so you can focus on finding the right fence design.
